My Roller Coaster CyberSpace Journey So Far

It is now just over 10 months since I have embarked on this journey of mine into cyberspace. For many individuals, these 10 months were far too long. That journey might be very lonely and frustrating. It could be extremely disheartening especially if the key objective was to make instant money online.

For me, these 10 months have been a roller coaster of thrills, fun, new friendship, burning candles, loneliness, reading like I never did before, blogging and lots more excitement.

Regrets? Yes, I have a few. And all to be viewed by me personally as a learning curve. I will share these regrets later part of this article. In so doing, I the hope that if you will avoid the pitfalls during along your path if you were also taking on a cyberspace journey like I am.

There are too many lessons. I will shared some here now and keep some for later. Well, here I go.

Learning #1 - There is no such thing as Instant Success!! Forget the promises most speakers and organizers made of their workshops and seminars. They are just marketers, and very good ones too. They play on our lack of knowledge and momentarily, of our weakness to believe in anything.Frankly, from my experience of all those whom I know who attended the workshops with me, 95% were disillusioned a month later after completion of their course. Enthusiasm and hope are absolutely fast diminishing phenomenons. Most of such workshops are too superficial and general in provision of necessary knowledge for individuals to gain enough confidence for a breakthrough over the threshold to gain a glimmer of light of hope and maintain that enthusiasm.

Learning #2 - Such workshops are mostly very expensive and does not equate to the promised value a participant is able derived from it. For certain, my first workshop looking hindsight is far too expensive. On the contrary, the recent Stephen Pierce Event that I participated was great value for money. However, that Event was meant more for those who are familiar with some basics and jargons related to Internet Marketing . For those who have not attended a workshop, I recommend that you research forums and ask people who had attended before, the quality of promises. Never jump into a decision immediately without doing this research. There is not hurry, really.

Learning #3 - Assuming you have attended a quality workshop, what immediately need to be done, if to form a small support group amongst the participants whom you are comfortable with. These individuals must share the same passion and are able to sacrifice time for the journey. Time is certainly a resource to success. Many have too many excuses and reasons for not having enough time. Most importantly and most preferred, each member of the group share more or less a similar level of Internet savvy competency. Finally, strong Positive energy amongst members to drive the group to its Internet Marketing success.

I have a group since the end of my 1st ever workshop on Internet Marketing. A great group of individuals whom over time I get to know and respect. We have since met almost once every week. At the beginning, we met online once over Skype and once face-to-face. At stages, a couple of members came and went. Now, this group of ebizwizards are solidly determined and gung-ho to make dreams come true. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each one of these ebizwizards for their support and belief in me.

Lesson #4 - Commit to Action immediately. Never leave things undone. Procrastination merely dilute your dreams. The longer you put away taking the baby steps, the more likely you are going to put on hold your dreams. Your negative mind and other around you will always distracted you away from your goal. Once you are set to chase your dreams in Internet Marketing, let that passion build up. Fire up yourself constantly. Take action consistently and persevere. Never give up even though the journey could be very lonely and testing. Gather, gain knowledge and speed . Spend a committed certain amount of time daily in front of your computer, in pursuit of your first dollar. Once you can get the first dollar, go forward can get the next few dollars. The journey gets absolutely interesting and rewarding as you gain momentum in your effort.

I have made a fistful of dollars now. I will do more in due course. And lots more when I break the sound barrier!!

Lesson #5 - For those without a blog, start one up immediately even though you might not have the best writing skills. You get better over time. And most articles need not be very long. You can get tips on creating your blog with Blogger or WordPress on Chapter 1, 2 & 3 of this current blog site you are reading. Writing and visit blogs written by others. By seeing what others do, you will be able to get ides how you can design your blog step-by-step as you progress along. Be patient and learn. Once you are able to maneuver around the blog, understand and do a bit of html copying, pasting and editing, getting the hang of writing, you will be getting yourself to be able to explore the do-it-yourself website for your Internet Marketing business. While you are at blogging, build up a relationship with a list of people you met when they come and visit and vice-versa. I have enjoyed this immensely and have got to know some really wonderful people from all over the world. I have picked up some many good things from them in their blogs that they shared. A couple of these friends I have come to know very well although we might not have met. Who says that friendship can be made over long distance and in cyberspace?

Next thing to do is join communities that you have common interests. Also establish a group and invite others who share the same passion to join you.

Lesson #6 - Use your blog to build a list of subscribers. Offer them some suitable and attractive gifts for them when they opt-in to signing up with you. There is a whole video on this List Building and generating traffic to your blog and keeping a database of your valuable visitors on my blog article,"Myths About Making Money Online". The article and video is self-explanatory.

This is the number 1 regret I have on my blog and especially on my teddy bear website. My teddy bear website has thousands of visitors via PPC (Pay Per Click) and yet I did not capture these visitors' names and email addresses. I am now getting it done to my blogs and that website. I am sourcing for suitable gifts to give away and opt-in tools. I have another website, about hair and scalp wellness, that I will also have to do the same.

The above although I mentioned that it something I regretted not doing, it might not really be strictly in my perspective, a regret. It is more a learning and an opportunity for me once I knew I have not been doing it. This knowledge I gained as I prowl the books, other people's blogs, my ebizwizards friend for more knowledge.

Lesson #7 - Start branding yourself. Commence doing this from day 1. This can be a valuable intellectual property that could be worth lots of money in time to come. Got to either www.register.com or www.godaddycom to check and register your own name. It has to be a .com. Never compromise on this.

I have registered a .com domain name under my very own personal name. I have been using www.register.com for years as I have found them very reliable. Slightly more expensive and worth it.

Other learnings - Now I learned about Squeeze Page, the importance of article writing and submission to syndication sites, writing a book to gain credibility, how to due ghostwriters, MySpace, methods to generating traffic to your website and blog, keywords, SEO, niche marketing online, what is html and how to do simple editing, eBay, Per Per Post, affiliate marketing, drop-shipping, opt-in tools, web-creation and design, photoshop tools for photo editing, video editing, and lots lots more.

Just imagine. Prior to 10 months ago, I didn't know any of these terms, let alone working on these tools. Great wonderful stuff. And my friendship list is getting longer. I am enjoying every minute of it.

Best of all, it is never too later to start. I am 52, I am certain that I am miles apart from some young individuals who are still in the dark about Marketing Online and Blog Monetization. :-)

This is on PayPal this morning when I received a mail from them. Now Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines. Malaysia...when are you going to follow suit. Why always a follower. Can you be a leader for once? With the Multi-Media Super-Corridor vision, many of us would at least would have expected Malaysia to move super fast and be ahead of many others in th region with international payment gateways. There are may prospective Internet marketers in the country. Many successful individuals too for that matter. If only the nation would very quickly open up and nurture these talents. Malaysians can easily lead in this field. Remember "Malaysia Boleh".

What has happened?

Now...it's still not too late!! Go for it Malaysia, and let Malaysians do Internet business with the least hassle and in no time, the country will proudly move high up and lead in field of Internet marketing. Search for internet marketing and it's not surprising that Malaysia comes up / rank second on the first page for those keywords in terms of number of searches. That shows Malaysians are active in this area. Also notice the recent amount of interest in gaining knowledge with offers of workshops, courses and seminars relating to this topic.

Hurry Malaysia. Before it's too late. The longer Malaysia decides, it's losing its edge by leaps and bounce to the competition.

Chapter 17 - Migrating From Blogger To WordPress

There are many of us who have blogs hosted with Blogger. At the same time, many of us who are serious into blogging have also heard about WordPress and the wonderful things WordPress can do. No doubt about it. All you need to do is check out my similar ebizuniversity blog hosted with WordPress and Blogger to know the difference. If you want to have further comparison to go WordPress and Blogger for my Mind Body and Spirit blog.

And it is so simple to migrate from Blogger to WordPress. Nothing scary or to fear at all.

First thing to do is to to Chapter 3 (How to go to register a blog account with WordPress) at http://www.ebizuniversity.wordpresss.com or http://ebizuniversity.blogspot.com.

Thereafter. click on "Manage" followed by "Import". Read the instructions and do exactly as per the instructions.

Oh...La...La!! You've now successfully imported literally everything including comments placed in your blog hosted at Blogger to WordPress.

Yes! It's just as simple as that. No copy and pasting each of the posts from Blogger to WordPress.

Kudos to WordPress.

Chapter 16 - MySpace You Cannot Do Without

Today is the first of many day to come when I'm going to put up useful links for anyone who is serious about driving traffic and promotion their websites or blogs. These are tips that I managed to pick up from the 4-day Internet Marketing workshop that I mentioned about yesterday. These tips are from international gurus who have been very successful in the field of Internal Marketing. They shared these tips generously and wholeheartedly. I'll share these tips one day at a time so follow me in this blog.

Yesterday, during the workshop, I've subscribed to a 3-month coaching program for List Building (building a list of email addresses for establishing relationships for the Internet Marketing platform). This is the foundation anyone who is interested in Internet Marketing can't do without. The program starts in 2 weeks from today. I'm also going to share that with everyone who visits me and for those who leave me their email address and full name, I'm going to send them the notes I've taken from the workshop. As I progressed with the List Building program, I'm also going to part with them notes taken during my journey.

Here's the first link. For those who have not signed up for MySpace, go immediately now to www.MySpace.com and register. It's an awesome place where you can generate lots of interest for your blog and website, and huge amount of traffic.

After you've put up your photograph (important) updated your profile (important), the next "must" thing to do is to invite all your friends by sending them each an email. This invitation feature is available in MySpace. Invite no less than 50 friends to start with.

The second step is to then post a blog (important and must do) by going to "post new blog" tab. Write something and "preview & post". If you're happy with the preview, click on "post".

Is Internet Marketing a Craze or is it a Crazy Phenomenon?

For some of us who have been successful, might think the Internet Marketing phenomenon is such a Craze. These people are making so so much money from it. It's unbelievable. In fact, they make it their business to make it a Craze, their passion. These individual started with what they thought were crazy dreams, ideas and making these realities.

Then there are those of us who feel it is a Crazy thing!! Internet Marketing if making them Crazy and causing them to losing sleep over. They thought when their crazy dreams would become real and yet, it has been elusive and have not appeared. Dreams that would give them overnight financial freedom are flying off day-by-day. Sleeplessness, insomnia. Many more days after - still without much sleep, they relented. They view Internet Marketing is such a Crazy thing.

What's the different between the Craze and the Crazy?

Well...I've been attending Stephen Pierce Event over the past 3 days (today is the final day). The one learning I've been reminded of time and time again, is - "Nothing else matters if one doesn't have the Passion for it and the Determination to take Action".

Only then, one will have the Perseverance to go through the long distance of the journey (most time can be lonely) to success. To keep the fire burning constantly and consistently. Along the pathway, people will criticize. One's own mind will have negative self-talk - "You're Crazy". If one doesn't have the strength to persist in the face of such constant challenges, Craziness set in as the first dollar seems to be a million mile away. That dollar getting further and further by the day.

Stephen Pierce's Event can be a dose of medication for those who felt they've seeped into that Crazy state of mind. Go to one of his event on Internet Marketing and be medicated. Mind Body and Spirit. Received heaps of tips, tools, ideas and secrets to support you in these hard journey. Meeting as many people...and talk to them (in this particular event, there are about 600 of us of the same feather and perhaps, different colors). Having done so and if you're still in that feeling of entering a Crazy state of mind, I would suggest that you let the World of Internet Marketing totally alone before you become Crazy and proved all your critics right!! Then you might be so so close and you might not even know it!!

Are you going to fly over the cuckoo's nest or be in it? Your choice!!

As for me, I've make my first dollar. I'm determined to make my first million on the Internet.

Following from my earlier posting about free headers for your blog, here is -

A few simple steps to change the Header in the Blogger's blog.

Gone are those good old days when you have to know and work hard editing with complex HTML code. Phew!! What a relief. Blogger has provided us with a platform that seamless and easily allows us to do editing without the need for any HTML knowledge. If you feel that you wished to change the header in your blogger's blog to something that convey your message of your blog, you can follow these few simple steps .

Dashboard > Template > Page Element > Header (Just below the Navbar) > Click on Edit Button > Browse the image in your PC and Upload > Save

Being a little patient. Your header is almost done. Just one more step.

Click the edit > (A new browser will open as usual where you will find Blog Title, Blog Description, Image and Placement). Under the Placement section, you will notice 2 sub sections:

Behind title and description
Instead of title and description

Click Instead of title and description and proceed to save changes.

Your new looking header of your choice is ready to set and enhance the tone of your blog.

Chapter 8 - Your 1st Posting Entry

Now you are for your first post. Enter into www.blogger.com by using your user name and password. Click "Posting" to display the "Posting / Create" window where you can write your first entry.

The "Title" of your blog post page is used to identify your entry both on your main blog page and in the "previous posts" section.

Type your posting in the "main editing area". If desire, click "Preview" to get an idea of how it will look once published. (Click "Hide Preview" to finish writing.

Finally, click "Published Post" to add your entry to your blog. (later chapters will cover extra formatting and other embellishments).

"Save Now" to not save the entry and not published the post.

Once your new post has been published, you will see the "Posting / Status" page. Click "View Blog" to see your brand new blog and your first entry. This post is available for everyone who is on the internet.

Computer Backup

Yes...I'm back in action!! I've learned a very expensive lesson two Sundays ago.

Always back up your data in your computer.

I didn't do any backup for a month and I hope I have not lost any information. All my information are invaluable as I conduct so much transactions with my computer. My passwords, user names, URL links, tips, photos, music, audios, etc are all in my computers.

It was that day when my roof started leaking during a thunderstorm. Rain kept pouring in from a wind backlash through the gaps between the roof tiles. I wasn't at home and the master bedroom was flooded. It was too late when I discovered the situation. My 2 Mac notebook computers were drenched with water. The very next day when I sent them in for repairs, I was told that one Mac is worth repairing as I just bought it 6 months ago and it was an expensive intel Mac. I should retire the older one which I have been using for the past 4 years. It is far too costly to change the motherboard. I've not got my computers back as yet. It shall be bad news if all data were lost. I hope I won't need to be told that in a few days.

Lesson - Always always do a backup immediately on a daily basis if you could. Anything can happen and expensive data can be forever lost. It's worth the effort.

I learned my lesson too well this time. :-)

Now that you have already done your installation of Technorati and claim your blog(s) there as well as submit your blog(s) to Google, Yahoo and MSN as laid down in Chapter 5, the next best thing to do in to install google analytics to your blog(s). You may ask what Google Analytics is. Google Analytics will help you learn even more about where your visitors come from and how they interact with your blog(s) / website. It is a great tool to determine which online marketing strategies and initiatives are cost effective and see how visitors actually interact with your blog(s) / website. It shows you the performance of the steps you take to promote your blog(s) / website. I have found it to be tremendously useful. I recommend you take the following steps below to get going -

1. Go to www.google.com/analytics/home

2. Next go to "Sign up now"

3. "Enter your current email address", "choose a password", "re-enter your password" and finally "Accept and create your account"

4 Sources Of Traffic That May Generate Money Online For YOU From Your Blog

Think about this. In sales, it's the number game. Likewise, making money online is the same. The money people see your blog, the chances of making money online is there.

The simple formula for making money online is: “great contents = traffic + conversion = money”

Simply put - Generate traffic with great content and that would equal coverstion into MONEY.

The 6 million dollars question. How do we drive traffic? How do we pull and push visitors to our blog?

What are the traffic push and pull for our blogs? (we shall leave keywords, PPC and SEO out of this chapter for now).

Generally, the four (4) key sources of traffic are -

1. Create direct/organic traffic
2. Buy search engine traffic
3. Lean on networking traffic
4. Indirect Referral traffic

1. Create direct / organic traffic. “Build great contents for your blog and traffic will flow-in”. Content is the ticket to successful traffic pull. Build a blog niched to your chosen audience and traffic will be attracted to pulled in.

Use significant keywords loved by your audience and the search engines will crawl and send traffic to you. Simple write fabulous contents and Google will give you a helping hand.

2. Buy search engine traffic. The words associated with this sort of traffic source include Google Adwords, Pay-Per-Click (PPC), Yahoo Directory Listing, advertising, etc.

My personal experience with Google Adwords (sponsored links) on my website selling teddy bears was an amazement to me. I can never imagine traffic coming to my website in the first couple of hours from all over the world!! A must try and certain, such advertising can deliver. And one can then understand why internet marketing really does have a level playing field with the world market, literally, at your feet.

3. Lean on network traffic. Networking is POWER!!. Get your strategic partner to support and write testimonials about your blog. This brings credibility to your blog.

4. Indirect / Referral Traffic. Here you build links where other blogs are linked back to your blog and promoting yours. Digg, SpicyPage, Mybloglog, del.icio.us, Technorati, FuelMyBlog, Blipoo, Myspace, Squidoo, Bumpzee are some of the sites worth consideration.

Chapter 3 - Starting With WordPress

In this Chapter 3, I am going to attempt to provide the step to set up a blog with WordPress. It is good to have an identical blog at WordPress with the one that you have already done so with Blogger. The reason is just to get more exposure for your blogger by attracting more traffic what would be useful when you start doing the things to begin earning money with your blogs.

Now, let's begin.

Step 1. To to WordPress.

Step 2. Click on "Get a WordPress. Blog now >>".

Step 3. You will now enter a page with the title "Get your own WordPress.com account in seconds".

Step 4. Click "Register" located at the bottom of the page.

Step 5. Create your "Username".

Step 6. Create your "Email Address". Make sure you write your username and password something for future reference in case you have forgotten them.

Step 7. Check "I have read and agree to the fascinating terms of service".

Step 8. Click "Gimme a blog! (Like username.wordpress.com)".

Step 9. Complete your "Blog title". Keep your blog title as interesting and broad as possible so that it is relevant to many people. This is important to generate traffic and money in the months ahead.

Step 10. Choose "Language".

Step 11. Proceed to "Sign Up". This page will appear.

Chapter 2 - Starting Your Blog

This chapter is meant for individuals who have not started up a blog. The steps provided below are simple small steps are easy to follow to begin the process of creating a blog. For those of us who are savvy with it we can help by just emailing these steps to someone who wishes to start a blog or to encourage someone to start one.

Starting to create one's own blog is simple enough. One has 2 popular free options. One can create a blog and have it hosted (all for free) at either Blogger or WordPress. For this chapter, I will cover Blogger.

1. Open your browser and go to Blogger.
2. Create an account where it states "CREATE YOUR BLOG NOW".
3. You will be prompted to choose a "USER NAME".
4. You will be prompted to "ENTER A PASSWORD".
5. You will be prompted to "RETYPE PASSWORD" to make reconfirm your password is correct.
6. Remember (write it down) your blog's URL address, user name and password. The user name and password will ensure you are the only one who can access and edit your blog.
7. Next step for you to choose a "DISPLAY NAME". It is the name that is posted at the end of each posting in your blog. Simply put - it's your signature.
8. Next step is for you to provide your designated email address. This email address is used for recovery of your user name or password just in case you have forgotten those details.
9. Check "I ACCEPT THE TERMS OF SERVICE".
10. Click "CONTINUE".
11. Enter your "BLOG TITLE". This is similar to the title of a book. Make it catchy and have the title envelop the essence of your passion for your blog.
12. Next step is to complete the "BLOG ADDRESS (URL)". Make sure the address is short, sweet and memorable. You cannot change this blog address once it is done.
13. Click "CONTINUE".
14. CHOOSE A TEMPLATE. Then click "CONTINUE". Choose a template of your choice for your blog's initial design (this can be changed later).
15. Start writing your first blog entry.
16. Go to the "POST OPTION" and edit the "DATE" and "TIME" you wish your first entry to be dated and timed.
17. "SAVE AS DRAFT" or "PUBLISH" your first post.

Short for "Weblog".

<World-Wide Web> (Commonly "blog") Any kind of diary published on the World-Wide Web, usually written by an individual. The home page usually shows the most recent article and links to earlier articles, the owner's profile and web logs written by the owner's friends. There is usually a facility for readers to add comments to the bottom of articles. There are many sites like http://blogger.com/ where you can create a blog for free. Many web logs consist almost entirely of links to other web logs, some publish original content, a few are worth reading.

Blogs can be personal or professional, topical or random, updated hourly or once a month or longer - it is all up to the individual. It is an on-line journal of sorts, a form of expression that is defined by each individual blogger.

The Frame Before The Journey

In my next post, I will begin the chapters containing tips and experiences that I discovered through my journey into the world of blogging and ebusiness. At the on-start, I would share mostly tips and my personal experience with individuals who are considering starting up a blog and does not have the slightest idea where to begin.

Every chapter will share blogging tips that require brief attention for a mere few minutes a day to do. This will not tax one's time and avoid making a simple topic into a time-consuming, complex and difficult one. If one had more time and did have the appetite for more tips, just take the challenge to try more than one chapter at a time.

As we progress on, I will share tips and my journey into ebusiness.

Blogging is a good beginning into our cyberspace adventures prior to embarking on the galaxy of ebusiness.

We Are Made Of Dreams

The cyberspace journey might not be going as planned for many of us embarking on it. Who says it is going to without challenges and hiccups? As long as we keep that dream alive, we will reach the end of that rainbow. The trip is going to be rough, cold and lonely time and time again. Achieving dreams are always that way. We have to be tough when the going gets tough. We must persevere to enjoy the fruit of our dream. We must toil. We must resist the easy temptations to give up on our dreams. We must be strong and learn every bit we can. We are the power of our own dreams. Live those dreams and keep the courage to leap, spread our wings and fly!!

I wish to share that and the following inspirational story before before I progress further into my cyberblog roller-coaster with myself and everyone I have the fortune to be connected with.

DREAMS

A wonderful story for any age.....

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and
challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood
up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.
I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me
with a smile that that lit up her entire being.

She said, "Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old.
Can I give you a hug?" I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of
course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.

"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked.
She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married,
have a couple of children, and then retire and travel."

"No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to
be taking on this challenge at her age.

"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting
one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and share a
chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next
three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was
always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her
wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily
made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled
in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was
living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football
banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and
stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech,
she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a
little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said,
"I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is
killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell
you what I know."

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began: "We do not stop
playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There
are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving
success. "You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to
have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many
people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!"

"There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If
you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't
do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am
eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do
anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That
doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always
finding the opportunity in change."

"Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we
did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear
death are those with regrets."

She concluded her speech by courageously singing The Rose. She
challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our
daily lives. At the years end Rose finished the college degree she had
begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to
the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to
be all you can possibly be.

Lessons:

1. You are never too old to learn.
2. Laugh and find humor everyday .
3. Don't let change overwhelm you, let change help you find
opportunities you may have never seen!

My name is Franco Yong. I hail from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This journal will be my journey, adventure, experience and challenges into the realm of cyberspace of eBuiness or eCommerce, internet marketing, online shopping and blogging. I will also provide tips and links for doing business online as well as blogging. I will also hope to share with those just starting up a blog or thinking of starting up a blog what to do in their proceeding days ahead. This will be a day-by-day guide to them to set up a blog as I had experienced it before.

Now my thoughts about the rest of my cyberspace journey for since November, 2007.

Many years I have been buying products of different sorts online. "What a great business to be into", I told myself. For years I had the urge to get my hands into the field of eBusiness. I never really got to do it until November 2006. I guessed just like anyone else, I was putting it off as long as I can. I simply convinced myself that the realm of the unknown can be put-off till another day and then another day.

One destined day in November last year, I decided to learn more about the unfamiliar and taking up the challenge. Next day, I paid a hefty sum of money and got myself enrolled into an internet marketing workshop. For the next 2 1/2 days, I told myself that I should have started the journey the moment I had that fire to do so. Well, how true the saying goes - "Better late than never". And at the age of 52!!

Today it is exactly 13 weeks ago since I launched my teddy bear website. The journey might seem brief considering that I attended the workshop in mid November 2006. It had been a challenging 8 weeks prior to the website launch. The workshop had provided me with an understanding of some of the areas that I could consider.

Options were available to me for to look at which business model would be appropriate for me. I would have taken the easy route and either launched the platform based on affiliate programs or drop-shippers. Another choice was e-books.

I chose to source a product, promote and market it. It has to be something that is well-liked, suitable for all occasions, simple and light to deliver to customers. Of course, the profit margins have to be uncompromisingly attractive!! I decided to sell teddy bears. These teddy bears that are unlike those generally available in the marketplace. I headed to the bookstores. I bought books and even more books. Books included topics covering Internet marketing, SEO, Blogging, Video-blogging, eBay, Dreamweaver 8. I read and read...trying to gain a more in-depth understanding of the sorts of application of the knowledge gained from the workshop on a subject I have not idea of at the beginning and yet so complex.

Sourcing for the right teddy bear product has taken a month. I began designing the teddy bear website. However, with the tight time line that I had imposed on myself to launch my website, I finally passed that task to a webmaster. Armed with the knowledge I have equipped myself from workshop and the books, I worked with the webmaster to structure the website that way it should be as per recommendations I sourced from books. Just a piece of advice here. Never leave it to your webmaster entirely to create and design the website. There are just too many other considerations besides the look and feel of the website. For a website to be able to attract traffic, it is critically important that keywords, meta-tags, site optimization, ranking,Google AdWords , blog are considered. All these I had to work with the webmaster in addition to the shopping cart and adding a blog to the website.

Finally on January 20, 2007 I was ready to uploaded my website and it was done.

For the first 2 weeks, nothing happened as far as money making was concerned. I was tweaking areas such as my keywords, landing pages, page titles, blog, , robots, Google Analytics. I was also working on my blog, http://my1teddybear.blogspot.com, with the hope to promote and drive certain amount interests to the website. I simultaneously initiated another blog, http://francoyong.blogspot.com. This blog is about Mind, Body And Spirit including numerous other thoughts that might come along the way.

Further area I worked on was Google AdWords - activated sponsored links. That effort, immediately within the same hour, drove my unexpected traffic (being a novice) to the website from all over the world। I had 85 visitors within the first 5 hours of the Google AdWords being activated. Believe me now!! Indeed Google Adwords does work. I generated about 3.5% conversion on average. Over a 5-week duration, I received orders amounting to just over USD 4,000 from the world at large. I must say that is pretty impressive for a start-up for my teddy bear website.

Oh...another thing. I also extend my support for now, to two international orphanage homes as well as one in Malaysia. In total there are 150 international orphans and more children will be added as I go along. Furthermore, with the money earned from the teddy bear website, I will set aside 20% for hungry children in extreme poverty. 1 child in the world dies of hunger every 3 seconds. That's the least reason these children should die this way.

I am happy for the path and the milestones I have covered so far.
